Homebuyer Education

Homebuyer education can assist you with everything from solving your current housing challenges to preparing for the responsibilities of homeownership. OHFA requires homebuyer education for all borrowers.

OHFA's Streamlined Homebuyer Education

OHFA's streamlined homebuyer education program allows you to gain important information on your own time, without the need to visit a housing counseling agency. To complete OHFA's online program:

  • Review the Homebuyer Guide. The Homebuyer Guide provides useful information to answer your questions as you search for your new home.
  • Complete the 25-question Homebuyer Education Test. The test will verify your understanding of key information covered in the Homebuyer Guide.
  • Complete the Monthly Budget Form.
  • Upon completion, you will be able to submit your information to a counseling agency serving your county who will contact you to schedule an appointment. Please allow 2-3 business days for actual completion.
  • Participate in a one-hour telephone consultation with a housing counselor in your community. During the call, you will review your test and budget, and you can discuss any questions or concerns.
  • After your consultation, the housing counselor will issue a certificate of completion to OHFA.

If you are unable to submit electronically, you may fax the completed test and budget form available for download below to:
